Today it is so easy to rant about this subject because I think it’s absolutely tragic how humans feel so free to manipulate nature! Today there is the extremely sad case of the chimpanzee who attacked some poor woman and tried to detach her face. Birds aren’t meant to NOT fly, and chimpanzees are not meant to live in houses under the pretense they are humans.
I wonder when the exotic pet trade will stop. I wonder when society will wake up. It’s only then that these horrific events will cease happening.
It seems we’ve become very disrepsectful of nature, not just in the exotic pet industry. Somehow, for human pleasure, it’s ok to keep a magnificent elephant chained in place till show time. Or it’s ok to raise 8000 chickens, all crammed into cages designed for 800, never letting them see the light of day or scratch at the dirt. Or better yet, let’s breed those mutations together and come up with the distorted things like those poor ”munchkin” cats, you know….the ones with shortened legs.
It’s pathetic. A power trip. Selfish and so very disrespectful.

It’s getting harder and harder to find things you can trust! Now I hear the nation’s water supply is threatened too!? Peanuts and peanut butter, lettuce, tomatoes, pet food, toothpaste……….the list is getting ridiculously long. Oh yeah, wasn’t spinach in there somewhere too?
I wanna go back to the farm! Well water and tomatoes on the vines I planted and nurtured, eggs right out from under the cluckers. Things I trusted were safe to ingest. It freaks me out that I’m now so reliant on “the system” to provide my safety!

Talk about unlimited ranting material here!
Are you kidding me? She willfully decided to have all the remaining embyros implanted, ending up with octuplets? I don’t understand how she justifies her actions. It doesn’t seem fair to anyone, including herself. But she doesn’t get that.
Parenting even one child requires sacrifice, dedication, patience….so many things….but especially time. An investment of your time into the child’s life is what makes all the difference in the world. How can one woman divide herself enough ways to give each of 14 children the time and attention they deserve? She can’t. She simply can’t. Even before the new babies have left the hospital, she’s mentioned she feels bad for the 6 at home. What makes her think the demands on her time will be any less once the 8 new ones are home? Is she thinking at all? Doesn’t seem so to me.
So yes, I get angry that people can be so selfish and unthinking, but only until I remember that on a higher level, each of those new babies has chosen to come into the world with THIS mom, this situation, for whatever their soul lessons are. Although I think it was a stupid decision on her part, I also realize I’m in no position to judge and once again, get knocked back into recognizing it’s all a part of the plan, and then I chill out and send blessings to all of them.

President Obama will be addressing the nation in a few hours regarding this “stimulus package” that will save the economy from sheer disaster. Well, I don’t know if it will or not, I’m not an economist or a mathematician, but……I did some math trying to wrap my brain around the dollars being committed to this effort and I want to share what I discovered in this rant.
I picked a figure I can relate to……..$2000, and a time frame I could understand….24 hours. Then I did the math! Astonishing. That’s a bucket-load of money, for sure. Just to put it in a little different perspective, so you can grasp the enormity of the amount, if you really could spend $2000 per minute, even for one day, you’d spend $2,880,000 in just the first 24 hours! Isn’t that mind-blowing?!

Ranting About Puppy Mill Puppies vs. Animal Shelter Dogs
This last week-end, I participated in a wonderful benefit, sponsored by local animal shelters and concerned citizens, for over 600 puppy mill dogs recently rescued from horrific living conditions. This subject absolutely deserves much ranting!
The local shelters are doing their best at rehabilitating these dogs and finding foster homes willing to nurse them back to health. It is a daunting and expensive process. Estimated cost per dog per day is $20.
I think most of the public does not realize many of the dogs that are found at pet stores come from these puppy mills all across the country. The animals are not treated with dignity and respect, but instead are simply seen as a commodity to be marketed.
It is reassuring to hear President Obama prefers a “shelter dog” to live in the White House. Awareness and education are critical to resolve this awful practice. If you do ever visit a puppy mill, be prepared. The images you’ll encounter, assuming you have a beating heart, will shock and horrify you and will last a very long time. And please remember, when you do see that adorable puppy at the pet store, where it’s probable origin was and what you are contributing to the situation by purchasing that animal.
Below is a quote I found at Ask.com.
In shelters alone, approximately 3-4 million cats and dogs are euthanized every year. It is hard to get a completely accurate answer, because not all shelters report, or are required to report all euthanasias. These numbers are from the Humane Society Website.
“The HSUS estimates that animal shelters care for between 6-8 million dogs and cats every year in the United States, of whom approximately 3-4 million are euthanized. At this time The HSUS can only estimate these figures because there is no central data reporting agency for animal shelters.
This overpopulation of companion animals is widely acknowledged across the country by professionals and experts in the animal welfare field. Overpopulation is a tragedy. There are simply not enough responsible homes for all of these wonderful, innocent animals. At this point in time, it would be impossible to humanely house every unwanted animal in the United States.”
